I've never heard of this company -- are they reputable, does anyone know? I've heard all sorts of stories abut these types of things being spyware or some such, don't want to pollute my Mac with any of that garbage!
They are one of the most reputable company in security area for business users. They typically don't sell (or don't intend to sell) to home users. Although if you are in a university and they offer sophos, you can get it for free.
Seriously, I have never installed anything beside Sophos on my macs for the last 7 years. I really like its small footprint, very low memory usage (not like Norton hog), extremely fast loading at login, not at all intrusive while working. It does not even seem to be there. And this is coming from experience with windows with their ****** memory hog antivirus programs, even the free ones. I have made it a policy to install sophos on Windows machines. Such a relief from the stupidity of Nortons and zone alarms!!

No matter what Apple does lately or how much they sell or how good the forecasts are for sales Apple Stock continues it quick downward slide. What the HELL!! I just do not understand it ... Perhaps in the same way that Apple previously pulled OSX software engineers to help polish iOS, they're now focusing on getting Lion out the door?
Either that or a decent notification solution is still eluding them :P

If the tablet had built-in Bluetooth and could use a wireless keyboard and mouse then it could replace a notebook computer. Maybe the keyboard snaps on and acts as a cover for the tablet screen. Maybe it's like a Macbook that come apart at the hingebut also you can write on the screen. You have to figure Apple is doing something different but yet this thing still runs the same Mac OS X Leopard as the other Macs.

You mentioned Boot Camp, so I assume you run Windows on the partition? That's what I mean by dual boot, 2 OS's on one hard disk.

but... honestly, Apple needs to differentiate between macbook and macbook pro lines. so i bet the macbook update will merely be and update in speed to the higher speed versions of the chips they already have.
why? i just don't think Intel will be churning out the new merom chips fast enough to put them in all the Macbooks. and the mini's.
Also, isnt the Imac supposed to get the other version of the new Intel chip? you know... Core 2 Duo desktop (Conroe). cause They just came with a nice 64 bit chip. my bet is this chip will show up somewhere also. and it will be in the Imac and maybe even macmini.

I think that is not quite true.. hot air rises and the top compartment is not fully closed, last time i saw, there are vents for the HDD's in the "shelf" they slide in that allow hot air to go to the top compartment keeping them a bit fresher, and the PSU even warmer.
Feel free to correct me on this since i only opened the case once and it was like an year ago
while the PSU will get fresh air from the front, it will also get the hot that rises from the bottom, Hot HDD's included.
I'm not exactly sure why Apple put those "vents" in the plate, they sure don't go through the whole panel, though. The compartment to the top is indeed closed apart from a few tiny holes.

Yes, the war just started and things are heating up. I would think the next few years will result in a tablet OS distribution that looks like this:
iOS - 35%
Android - 40%
WebOS - 20%
RIM - 5%
Apple - 35%
HP - 20%
RIM - 5%
Samsung - 15%
Moto - 10%
LG - 10%
HTC - 5%
Maybe Microsoft will wedge their way in, maybe the percentages will be shifted around a little. But the growth of the tablet market will stabilize or at least stop growing at the rapid pace that it currently enjoys.
The point I'm making is that the hot market only seems to be lasting 4 to 5 years. 10 years ago, MP3 players was the hot market. 5 years ago, smartphones was the hot market. This year, it's tablets. 5 years from now ... who knows, but it won't be tablets.
Don't apply the phone dynamic to Tablets. Android is not likely to take a lead in tablet market share for a long time if forever.
Every single time a customer goes to buy a tablet they will have the choice to buy an iPad. The only way that changes is if the wireless companies are able to give away cheap android tablets with data plan contracts. Otherwise, it is going to be very difficult for the commodity android market to overtake Apple.
Every store they go to, an iPad will be there next to it, and since Apple took such an aggressive price stance from the beginning, it is going to be hard for anyone to take that position away from them, especially a mish mash of opposing companies relying on a free OS by another party.

I'm definitely leaning towards a Paris release, too. It breaks my heart to say it because I know I'm in the same position that a lot of you are in. But the rumored news is that "the company is slated to receive mass shipments of the new Merom Core 2 Duo processors by the first week of September..."
That said, it looks like Apple will be receiving the processors by that date, not having them in MBPs, Minis, and MBs ready to ship.
