    This is easy to see

    MobilMe Becomes Free

    MobilMe gets laden with 1Ads

All part of the Apple strategy

I would be happy to keep paying $99/year for adfree Mobilme

I agree with that. I would keep paying $99 a year for no ads. I am a Christian Minister and the last thing I want is ads on my website. I once belonged to a church that opted for free web hosting. They immediately cancelled when ads for beer, sports illustrated swimsuit, and playboy started appearing in banners.

So one manufacturer Vs the rest, I think there would be something wrong with apple having more dominance than every other (notable) smartphone maker put together..!

Plus, like many have already said, competition is good..!

Now please let iOS five be good..! I get tingly thinking about it..!:D

So, we aren't allowed to talk about contracts? On the internet? Because you might come by and read about it? Yes, that is what "entitlement" is, get over yourself and skip over the posts that don't apply to you. Christ, esp when it is a positive for you.

You're just screwing with me, right? Because this has nothing to do with what I actually wrote.

I like the competition, and the cloud concept is definitely promising, but I don't think this is a solution I want. Call me pessimistic, but I don't want to rely on another entity for access to my own information. I don't want to store all my music and movies "in the cloud" and hope there is no complications. Rather, what I want is to be able to access my home computer via the cloud, but if all else fails, it's still saved on my home computer, not some remote server I can't access

Apple is extremely proactive. Which means they have a plan in place. When competition does something good that fits with their plans, then Apple can add it as a line item to their existing plans and assign it to a specific iOS release.

The competition on the other hand is defining their plans and goals completely based on what Apple does or what Apple's critics are saying. They do not have a very long-term vision of where they want to be and are by-and-large reactionary to what Apple is doing.

I will say that Google does indeed have a long-term vision, but not for Android's features. Google's long-term vision is to do anything they can to ensure they sit in between the user and the information on the Internet so they can advertise to them. They see Facebook as a major threat in this regard as well as Apple. Google's long-term plans are being disrupted by these other major players. Android/Honeycomb is a reactionary attempt to correct for some of that.

The day Apple starts competing against other companies is the day Apple products will stagnate. Apple does best when they compete against themselves. You don't win by doing what others do; You win by remaping the industry. (Perhaps Google and RIM need to stop competing against Apple and do something different.)

It's not a big deal at all.

As soon as you get any electronic device that uses the internet in some way shape or form, you are leaving a trail. You are leaving a electronic paper trail all the damn time.

Deal with it or ditch your devices.

This just sold me on the high-res screen for the MacBook Pro I'm looking at.

The $250 for the 2.3 i7 probably isn't worth it, but the $100 for the screen upgrade apparently will be...

This was one qtr, not total devices or did I miss somthing?

    overall figures at http://androidandme.com/2011/03/devices/android%E2%80%99s-market-share-depicted-with-a-whole-lot-of-colors/

This is the US market only.

I'm no android fan but don't think apple will be market leaders (by share) because the are not, and will not be.

No it doesn't. It is perfectly noted and not ambiguous at all. Feel free to ask any teacher, what do you think is missing from the equation? Btw, what are basing your 100% figure on? Have u asked even one?

(48/2)(9+3) would be straight forward. The way the formula was originally typed lends interpretation as:

    48/
    2(9+3)

Why would someone choose to group one set with parentheses and not another unless they were being intentionally ambiguous?

Did you call your elementary school teacher? I didn't. They taught me well enough the first time.

9 Things the Rich Don't Want You To Know About Taxes (http://www.wweek.com/portland/print-article-17350-print.html)

    It's a long article so here are some excerpts;

WTF does someone even do with 9 billion dollars?

Don't you remember, it trickles down? Key points from your article.

    1. Poor Americans do pay taxes.

    2. The wealthiest Americans dont carry the burden.

Contrary to what Rand Paul says. The income tax is less than half of federal taxes and only one-fifth of taxes at all levels of government.

    3. In fact, the wealthy are paying less taxes.

    4. Many of the very richest pay no current income taxes at all.

    5. And (surprise!) since Reagan, only the wealthy have gained significant income.

    6. When it comes to corporations, the story is much the sameless taxes.

    7. Some corporate tax breaks destroy jobs.

Due to loopholes and tax havens like the Cayman Islands. Average incomes fell during Bush years.

    8. Republicans like taxes too.

President Reagan signed into law 11 tax increases, targeted at people down the income ladder. George W. Bush signed a tax increase, too, in despite his written ironclad pledge never to raise taxes on anyone.

    9. Other countries do it better.

Hasen't Apple been working on the iPhone for "a few years" at least?

No, the rumor mill has been grinding on the iPhone for several years. Apple hasn't necessarily been working on it for that long.

Well i know i can get the chip, but then don't i need a new motherboard too, and who/where would i get that put in?

No, the same chipset is used for Merom at this stage (Santa Rosa won't be around until next year). I think a firmware update might be needed but possibly not. Those Core Solo Mac Minis look good to me for a makeover.

I don't know if I buy this whole shortage thing.

If there is such a big shortage, why aren't people/businesses creating more production plants and capitalizing on the demand (which is only getting started from the looks of it). Where there is serious demand there is serious $$$ to be made!

It seems like basic economics to me but I've been wrong before...

I hope to get an iPhone 5, the iPhone 4 is nice, but the proximity sensor is a pain in the butt, not a single update fixed my problem. I was hoping to get to upgrade to a iPhone without this problem, I guess I might need to go back to the 3GS or make the switch to an Android, which doesn't seem like a likely option for me, but I can't take the sensor problem much longer.

I don't know why but my MBP 13 i7 2011 is showing "Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB graphics" on the About this mac screen on Display tab.

BTW I'm using an External Display.

That's the graphic core onboard the Core i7 die. It doesn't change to ATi graphics when you use something graphically intensive? It is the 13" Macbook Pro. It only has Intel HD graphics.

Santa Rosa isn't a chipset, it's the name of the platform.

It consists of Merom (eventually Penryn?), Crestline (i965 express chipset) and Kedron (802.11n).

Santa Rosa won't affect performance a great deal.

The faster FSB will make a difference of maybe 3-5%. Maybe a little more in bandwidth-sensitive applications (say, some forms of decompression).

Less than than the difference between Yonah and Merom.

The other big differences are the new graphics core -- which the MBP won't use, the 802.11n - for which the spec hasn't yet been ratified, and is something easily added by changing/adding a wifi card, and the Robson flash caching technology, which is probably the biggest difference.

Note that Crestline is currently specced at consuming ~50% more power than the i945 chipset in Napa. Robson, however, should reduce some of that.

It's quite ironic that after years of Powerbooks getting new G4's with tiny clockspeed boosts, something like Merom is considered "bland"(?)Thank You For This Excellent Analysis Of Santa Rosa And What It Will And Won't Be ergle2. Best I've read anywhere here so far.

I welcome this idea. Intel is a disgusting anti-competitive company that cannot play fair. Apple is forced to use Intel's chipset and IGP instead of Nvidia which may have lead Apple to a decision like this. ARM is the future as is iOS, so like it or lump it. The low end Macs would probably have ARM and others both ARM and Intel. I would also welcome a switch to AMD.

I don't know, I'm kinda expecting it. As seen in the past, I'm sure they'll drop to ~$1000. Maybe even cheaper once they get some of their R&D back and chip prices start to fall. Eventually I see a sub $800 laptop even. Maybe.I seriously doubt it. It's not part of Apple's style to appeal to the masses by offering something CHEAP.

"Profits" on those sub $1k notebooks are next to nothing. Apple wouldn't want to make so little per unit. Plus they don't need to do that. You can buy old Macs for under $1k all the time. Since the refurbished 1.83 GHz Combo MacBook is already only $949, what's the problem?

You think that isn't low enough? You want Apple to be a welfare agency for those who can't afford $949? Because given the slim margins that would be involved in such a product, that is what they would be doing. Plus they would be canibalizing their above $1k sales. Makes no sense to me.

What I expect is not much:

Movie download service (with less than 100 movies, all current resolution of music video,s).
Updated Nano and iPod (size of flash/hard drive on both updated).

That is it. Thats all I believe we will see...

What Id like to see but think it will come out later, before Christmas:

A way to stream video to your TV
A remote of some sort to control the stream.

I believe that the movie service will not rely on new TVs or Macs. That would cut out way to many PC users and people that do not want to buy a new TV. If apple releases a Mac home center or TV I believe it will be after the movie service takes off - kind of like they did with the Apple branded iPod Hi-Fi, maybe January will see these.

The multi-function device will be the phone, and I guess it will come out next year (January).

But then again Im always wrong:) Here's to hoping Im wrong:)

Math is a language we engineers, scientists, economists, etc... are fluent in.

To us this is not-ideal delivery method, but it has a definite meaning.

Looking at the thread, I think there is a clear dividing line. Native math speakers: scientists, engineers, programmers, etc... say 288. Others who are effectively non-native speakers may interpret 2 due to their lack of fluency.

    B

I don't see how you can say that. None the less how anyone can confidently answer this question.

You arrive at 288 by multiplying 48/2 * (9+3), but that is assuming multiplication is the implied operator.

The way the equation is written, this question simply does not make sense. Parenthesis or something similar are needed to make this equation solvable.

You say you are fluent in mathematics, etc, but fluency requires proper syntax, which the equation simply does not have. If a professional gave me this problem to solve I would call them an idiot.
