You know...i have been a silent observer on this site for years. I never have ever signed up for a user name because i enjoyed reading different people's perspective, and felt it was best for me to just not get involved...but this has changed recently.

The apple community has changed with the increased popularity. Where as it was once a small group of evangelists fighting for apple to succeed, it is now half of the old order, and half of some sort of new "apple better not have any flaws in anything they produce, and everything they make had better use the best hardware on the planet, or else they suck and i am ditching them for microsoft/google." The fun seems to be leaving the building. I remember a lot of quirky apple products from the early days, including the macintosh. Can you imagine that apple had a computer that you couldn't expand the memory on?? can you imagine?? what would happen if they released that today...i swear people would threaten to sue apple for false advertizing because apple told them it was a good product, but it didn't meet exactly everything they want.

The antenna issue on the iphone 4 is a perfect example. I hear everything from apple should give away free bumpers to "steve jobs is a horrible ******* who stole my money, and handed me a tin can with a string on it in exchange"....come on now, people. Please.

Due to my line of work, i have encountered several iphone 4's in several midwestern states, and in several apple stores. Can you, if so inclined, reduce the signal to the phone by bridging the gap between the two antennas? Yes. Does it result in a horrible catastrophic failure of every feature of the device every time you pick it up? No.

The responses of "i'm just going to complain about dropped calls until i'm blue in the face, or apple resolves the issue, and i'm going to continue holding the phone in my left hand, without a case because that's how i've always used a phone" is akin to saying "i'm going to continue to fall on my face every time I take a step in my new air jordans because i've always worn sandals, and never had to tie my own shoes before, so i will continue this behavior until nike issues a fix so i don't keep falling on my face."

Most people who buy Macs are somewhat creative. With a Celeron processor, you can't be very creative...

How about a Core Solo? I thought they were about as fast as an early G5. Plus the Intel graphics are actually faster for 2D stuff (playing video, for instance) than an accelerator card with 64MB of VRAM.

im hoping this quietly fixes the unresponsive home button issue.

I've been having problems with the home button on my iPhone, but figured it was just the hardware going bad. Perhaps not? Is this an issue many have been experiencing?

The trouble I experience is that sometimes when I double-click the home button, it takes me to the search screen rather than the multitasking bar. Other times when I double-click the home button (or even single-click it), it does nothing at all. Is that what you're also talking about?

And the biggest question of all does this update fix it?

This doesn't make sense. Phone plans cost the same on a carrier for iPhone and android; therefore the only difference could be the cost of the phone.
In which case, if you are willing to buy an out of date android phone to get it for less, why not consider a year old iPhone which usually sells for half to three quarters off.
I believe most android phones at release are priced around $200 same as the iPhone.

What you say would be correct in a world where Verizon & AT&T were the only phone carriers (which isn't that unlikely anymore, but that's a different story...).

As the poster you reply to states, you can get phone plans for $25 - $30 with unlimited data/texts and while Android phones are options here, iPhones are not.

I've no opinion one way or another, this is just how big business operates.

But I thought the attached photo seemed kind of apt for this thread. :D

Will it have 4g lte and a dual core processor.

Now that i think about it the way iOS "multitask" it really doesn't need a Multicore processor

Exactly. I love how this report has everything broken down by manufacturer and OS, yet when they show their chart of typical usage (texting, downloading apps, web) they lump all devices in together as one!

Oh, really? Android users download apps at the same rate as iOS users do? I don't think so, but for them to reveal this fact would go against their mission, which was to show Apple stagnant and Android surging.

I saw some stats right here on MR several months back that showed the majority of Andorid users don't even surf the web on their devices, and Android has only about 20% of the web presence that iOS had, and at that time the "marketshare" was just about at parity.

You are totally misinformed or you are a blind iFanboy. As per a story on Appleinsider today, Android web share is actually higher than that of iPhone.

Ok, what no one has brought up here is the fact that many university researchers live and die by funding. Somebody paid for this study. Most of this stuff doesn't get done for free. What these wackos count on is that someone will pay even more for the follow-up study on God knows what. Some of the money for this may even be coming out of *gasp* your tax dollars. Go ponder that while you go out for your run.

Jobs may be skinny, but he is also getting older... there's nothing out of the ordinary here. Sure he may be a God to some of us (myself included :p), but he is a normal person like you and me. He sounded better at this presentation than he did at the Mac mini and iPod Hi-Fi introductions. He's actually been skinnier for a while now, so I am sure everything is fine. If anything, I think his performance has been improving throughout the year. I'm confident in his health. :)

As for the other speakers... I have to agree about Phil. He seems like a great guy, but his speaking skills are no where near as great as Steve's. Who was the other guy besides Bertron (sp?)? I really liked his presentations. He kept me interested, especially during Time Machine.

Try turning off features you're not using. I'm unfortunately using an Android phone at the moment, but I was able to get battery life up to about a week by turning off GPS, WiFi, etc. It has been a while since I used an iPhone, but I imagine you might be able to do something similar.
A WEEK iPhone battery life? Even if you cripple the phone by disabling features, there's still no way it would last even close to a week unless it's in sleep mode the entire time

All I'm interested in is the hard drive. I'm fine with xbox. 1080i is going to be 1080i on component or HDMI.

I only have a limited number of HDMI ports anyway. One is for the AppleTV and the other is for my HD cable box/DVR and I've been saving the last one for the PS3.

The black case would clash with everything else I have on my entertainment center. The TV, AppleTV, Xbox360 and rotel receiver are all chrome or white.

Revert Expos to its behavior prior to 10.6...it's seriously lacking in usability the way it is now. I found a hack to correct it, but I'd rather not have to rely on hacks like that.

What was it's behavior before then.

I don't notice anything wrong with Expose

I wonder what over profit generating uses Apple intends to use location data, collected with location services off, in the future ?

That's for Apple to know, conspiracists to speculate, and everyone else to find out. :)

For those who are interested in some of the advantages of magnesium, try this (http://www.meridian-mag.com/magnesium/) page. It's in reference to auto parts, but contains interesting general info.

Yes, magnesium is very flammable, but really only in finely powdered form.

What you people are failing to realize is that Aluminum in a finely powdered form is highly flammable too. In fact, it's the primary ingredient for solid rocket boosters.

that guy who blends stuff should be sent to an underdeveloped country and be thrown in the middle of the street with no food and in danger of getting raped by 4 bear bikers...that guy and the whole production behind that stupidity should get a hard lesson on hard work ethics to realize they are wasting money on machines that could've been useful for someone not so fortunate..shame on these people.

The U.S. also has what they like to call "strategic oil", so that they will not be caught short of the ability to wage war, anywhere, anytime.

This is not a small amount, I bet.

In Texas, you can get mixed drinks through the drive through! It's considered a "closed" container if the cup has a lid on it and the straw still has the paper over the top portion. I always thought that was hilarious.

Louisiana is like that. It always cracked me up when going through a drive-through liquor store and there would be a "please don't drink and drive" sign there as you pulled out. Louisiana used to have not only drive through daquiri stores, but full service drive through liquor stores. I haven't checked lately, though. Then again, Louisiana was the last state to raise their drinking age to 21, and only did it after the feds cut off highway funding.
