Wow. That's surprising. This whole time people downplayed it because there was no evidence that apple was actually transmitting this data. It wasn't a big deal because the db file was local only. Now when Apple addresses it they had to not only admit that the file exists but that they actually were transmitting data.

Ah well, still not a big deal. :p

It was never a big deal. Either you are holding it wrong or there is a misunderstanding. Apple never makes mistakes, didn't you get the memo? ;)

I'll preface this by saying that I'm not a 'birther', I believe O'bama is the rightful president of the US. That said, this video, if it's true (I don't have Adobe Illustrator to verify) is pretty embarassing:

I keep reading stuff like this. I don't think Time Machine works with the reagular harddrive. You have to use it with an external drive.

Yes, I was wondering the same because it wouldn't make much sense would it.:)

It seems to me it would make some older versions available on your HD, but then you would want to make a copy to an external HD for space reasons and for backup in case of failure. But I'm just speculating of course

So what? Who said liberals never partake in name calling? You claimed that liberals do more name calling. You want me to go dig out examples of name-calling done by conservative voices such as Limbaugh, Beck, etc.?

I should add Trump to that list to keep this somewhat on track with the subject of this thread.

Hey now don't go and try to get this thread back on track! ;)

You could, cite name-calling examples on both sides but it really shouldn't be about who started it, or who does it more; really it should be more about ending it and talking about the issues... but then we'd be in danger of actually progressing.

Hahahahaha you do not know much about the cell business here in the U.S. T-Mobile uses Cingulars network in a better part of the country, and Cingular uses T-Mobiles in the other parts, under a roaming deal agreement they made when Deustche Telecom bought Voicestream creating T-Mobile.

Hahahaha you obviously have not been a customer of either T-Mo or Cingular. And if you looked at their coverage maps, Cingular's coverage is quite a bit better than T-Mobile's. Yes, they do share SOME towers, but not all.

Gosh, over the many years, it's always been on then off then on then off as far as Best Buy selling Apple products....

Looks like we are approaching the "off" part of the cycle...

(no worries, after a year or so, it will be "on" again)

    LOL...

Idk, that just doesnt sound right...
They have higher-res models from the GT4/GTPSP artists (everything 3d is made with super high poly counts then downgraded as the game's engine requires) so i dont understand why they would use the low poly models from GT4 when it would take just as much time to export a higher res model from Maya.

Time will tell i suppose, but it just doesnt make sense for them to gimp standard cars for no reason.

Does anyone think the recent "problems" at Apple are going to have any effect on what happens Monday.

    Story: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2006/08/05/BUGAHKBK3H1.DTL

If there are products that are they "maybe" list, this might put them on the "go" list. Big news pushes stock prices up and pushes the "problem" stories on page 2.

So is there real resolution independence or just a x2 mode?

This. Until this happens displays won't advance any further for actual computers (non-tablet) because there are so many form factors.

Apple can spend the time to make graphics for each flavor of iPhone or iPad because there aren't that many to deal with. It becomes a lot more difficult to do this across a large range of products. Besides, computers are getting to the point where they are too powerful for most users (hence the popularity of the iPad). A retina display option would give people more incentive to upgrade their desktops, laptops, etc. I think?

As a designer, I'd love a retina 27" ACD. 300dpi right on my screen, almost perfect. Now if we could just get the color/brightness a little more accurate...

It seems like a preponderance of the issues people have are with the notebooks.

Do you think it could be because Apple has the thinnest laptops on the market which means they sacrifice build quality and heat management?

When I looked at the innards of an iBook G3 it was basically "a mess" in there...nothing looked modular like you would see inside the new Mac pro.

Apple doesn't has the thinnest laptops on the market.

Every day Apple stores get shipments of iPads....but they don't sell them when the arrive. They hold them for the line that forms the next morning.

Seems odd to me. Like they are purposely making a spectacle in front of the store every morning.

This morning the store I went to had NO AT&T models?!?!?! So tomorrow morning there will be yet another line of those that failed today (including myself).

On topic, I called Best Buy and was told that unless I pre-ordered before the day of the sale, I could not get an iPad 2. My co-worker walked in last week off the street and purchased one. Why the inconsistent message? I don't get it.

I'm glad they're fixing this "bug"

But their response is utter crap. They know it - and now everyone knows it.

As reports came out over a year ago about this - it's only after this tremendous bad press that they "found" it. Mhhhmmmm sure.

Even if one is "Apple friendly" when looking at this objectively that's a weak response.

Don't really care whether that is considered tracking or whatever word you want to find. Also, don't care if Apple upload or not!

When I turn something OFF, I need to be able to trust that it is OFF

Yes, we all have to realize we are constantly "logged" with IPs, cell towers,
EZ-pass etc. BUT there is no way they can make me believe this is a bug. We are almost at ios 5, so plenty of time to fix this.

It's a bad judgement on Apple's part, thinking that it doesn't cause any harm.

Well it does - to their reputation!

A bit pointless given that no software utilises the extra cores yet. But nice to know, I guess.

I'm still getting used to having two cores in my laptop!

Why do people think the computing world always revolves around them? Extra cores WILL be recognized by most 3d applications and will speed up rendering. There are many other applications for multiple core use that don't include web browseing or writing email to your grandma.

    Yes, that's true.

It's also true that most of the time, most people aren't even maxing out ONE core never mind eight.

And when they do, their program won't get any faster unless it's multithreaded and able to run on multiple cores at once. And it's also true that those people are not here. Get a clue who we are - Core Hogs!

    In the 70's:

Universal makes "Battlestar Galactica", and "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century", fun Sci-Fi shows.

In the 90's and early 00's:

USA Networks launches the Scifi Channel. They get great shows such as "Stargate SG-1" and "Farscape". USA Network has some great shows as well, "Monk", "The Dead Zone", "Peacemakers"

    That was then....

    This is now...

NBC has nothing but crap and gets jeleous of cable networks such as USA.

    NBC/Universal buys USA Networks.

NBC/Universal cancels the last season of "Farscape", and the new western, "Peacemakers". They attempt to cancel "Monk" and "The Dead Zone", but to no avail. They also attempt to cancel "Stargate SG-1" and replace it with "Stargate Atlantis", this fails too.

NBC/Universal "retells" "Battlestar Galactica" - sorry, it's all about skin and a drunk Col. Tigh - junk.

NBC/Universal now is "cleaning up" the Scifi Channel by putting on on its own shows, "Eureka" (it is good though).

NBC/Universal is cancelling "Stargate SG-1", at a con, one of its actors did mention that "Universal did let it go on for another 5 seasons".

NBC/Universal's #1 show on the Sci-Fi channel is Wrestling....

Universal is good for what again???

(note: I might have my timing off, like the Farscape cancellation, but I think Scifi might have seen it coming with that series cancellation).

To me the answer to the whole IR/Mac Pro/Front Row thing is obvious - put an integrated IR receiver into the keyboard. The keyboard would come with the Mac Pro (unlike the display) and is rarely under the desk. :)

Plus they could sell the keyboard for any Mac (including ones that don't have Front Row - they could include the app with it).

A redesigned keyboard-should come in Mac Pro and white colors

Looking at PC product offerings by ATI (http://www.ati.com/products/workstation/fireglmatrix.html), you can see that they also offer video cards with two dual-link DVI ports on a single card. You can even get this on a Radeon X1900 series card (http://www.ati.com/products/radeonx1900/radeonx1900xtx/specs.html).
I believe you are wrong (http://www.ati.com/designpartners/media/images/RX1900_Board_lg.jpg).
