Apple needs to be more revolutionary than just offer this rather lame iPod update... but I'm sure that is coming. Most of it is just software - except for the brighter screen and larger resolution.
Does the updated iPod software for old 5G also give the search function - that would be very useful.

I thought the 5G was already able to handle 640x480 movies, just couldn't display them at full resolution?
The way I understood, it was capable of playin that resolution in mp4, but not when using AVC/H.264...

I am, however, starting to see why they allowed a sneak preview of iTV. Look how many of us are saying "I can't wait for iTV!" now that we've had some time to experiment with iTunes movie downloads!
I don't quite agree. I think that the preview was mostly to deter comments such as, "Why the hell would you want to pay full price for and download a full length movie that you can only watch on your computer screen or iPod."
Apple is finally using the iTS for your household, not just your iPod/computer.

Well here it is Sunday, still no official word from Apple or any other credible source confirming tuesdays launch. I just hope that this is NOT going to be a huge let down.

I just called 2 of my local (Northern Virginia) Apple retail stores, and the 80GB iPods aren't in stock as of yet. Looks like it will be a few days until they show up. Apple's online store shows shipping times of "1-3 days". :(

The iMacs will NEVER see Kentsfields. Apple would have to have put Conroe in the new iMacs for that even to be a remote possibility. Even if they had I would still say it would never get Kentsfields.
I mean people are saying that Conroe is too hot for the iMac as it is (I don't think they are) but Kentsfield is two Conroe dies on one package. Meaning almost double the power consumption and heat generation.You appear to have no imagination. Kentsfield Will Go Into A New iMac Redesign. Have you not seen this mock-up yet? There are options in design that can make the iMac much cooler even with more heat producing elements inside.The iMac is huge (relatively speaking), are you telling me such a huge enclosure won't be able to dissipitate an extra 30W or so? It is only around 30W more!

I don't buy the notion that the iMac will continue to look like it has for these past two years. The G4 iMac design lasted 2.66 years. We are at the 2 year point of the current design. I bought a movie (Good Will Hunting) to try out the whole shabang and see the quality for myself. The 1.5Gb download took 6+ hours on my crappy adelphia cable modem (it feels slower every day, what am I paying 50 bucks a month for again?). I was satisfied with the image quality on my 20" Dell widescreen, but sitting at my desk to watch a movie instead of my couch isn't the movie experience I'm going for. Sadly, I probably won't be buying another iTunes movie.
Not that anyone cares.
Imagine how long the download would be if the movie was high def instead of 640 x 480.

Hey I'm satisfied with my carrier. I think the last time I had any problems with coverage was back in the 20th century. I've got coverage even in the freaking underground. I'd have coverage in the middle of wilderness if I chose to go there. It's cheap as well, I never pay incoming calls, my phone has never been locked and it works pretty much all over the world, my operator has had packet data connection most of this century as well and 3g for several years. What more could I wish?

A camera isnt only about MP. The weakest link of the camera in phones is the optics. You just cant get good pics from a camera phone due to the limited formfactor, even if you had 3200 MP.
So yes, in a foreseeable furture, the cameras in phones are crap.
There are software solutions that promise a different future than what you envision. DXO Optics made an announcement recently about using software to drastically correct cell phone camera pictures. Shouldn't be long...

The fact that the new iMacs can't address more than 3Gb of memory and are therefore operating on a 32bit logic-board makes me doubtful as to whether or not these systems are really 64-bit capable... It seems like some kind of hybrid 32/64bit system.
Will the C2D iMacs be able to run 64bit code, despite not having the 64bit address space (and being able to access over 4Gb or RAM)?
That's why I'm sticking with my 64bit G5 iMac ;)

I hope you people realise that not all people in the catholic church think about condoms and such the way the Vatican does.
I am a seminarian (priest in training so to speak) and do not think condoms should be forbidden.
Don't forget that the Catholic church is very open, as in the Evolution theory, Big Bang, not taking the bible as a science or history book.
Furhtermore, the pope has an iPod nano, and he saaid computer technology is the future.

I think most of you know what I am talking about when I say that the iMac (or a PC) is the work and media center in my room. Several of my friends and family have their huge expensive flat screens TVs in the living room (with or without Apple TV), but in the office, or like in my case, average joe who has no office space in the house, have a computer/laptop in our room or additionally we may have another less expensive TV to watch media in a bigger screen.
A 27 inch is great for office work but just not enough for a room entertainment system. Apple took the 30 inch nice, but hot iron monitor, out of their inventory and never replaced it. I suggest they come up with a 30 or so inch iMac. Not as expensive as a tower, better equipped than a MacBook Pro and by no means as simple as a Mac Mini. Something you can really work on.
Now days TV and PCs are merging technologies and having a nice monitor in your room/office to work with and watch media would just fill the void (not to mention save space). furthermore, imaging being able handle all your work on a nice big screen that does not take as much space and to be able to manage all your media from your room/office and being able to play it anywhere in your house with either Apple TV or any iPod/iPhone device, Cool hu?
