I'd like for you to explain how iOS implementations as a UI are actually useful to the desktop OS?
- Keep in mind that drawing characters on the Trackpad is already in Snow Leopard; Auto Save/Restore like I said is just Time Machine in a different direction, Mission Control is a Task Manager for Expose (I feel its the WRONG direction really; this is not a classic smartphone), and Lion Server seems to be more a "home server" with features stripped or missing.
Many things are STILL not known and until we all try them out in full production use means we ALL have a mindset that is not up to par of what Apple believes can benefit us all.
Either way we have another 10 more years with OS X; or the technologies it offers - Steve Jobs OS X Introduction.
Application Launcher - Useful for organizing apps
Versions - Useful for those who don't leave an external HDD plugged in at all times such as laptop users.
Resume - Useful when you need to restart your Mac.
Auto-save - Self explanatory.
Mission Control - Useful because you can view EVERYTHING on your Mac at a quick glance your windows, spaces, full screen apps, dashboard, etc.
Lion Server - Server functionality that wasn't there before unless you bought a server capable Mac.
Air Drop - Useful for quick file sharing.
Full screen apps - Useful when you are only doing one thing on your Mac or when you are using an app that uses a lot of real estate.

Not in the UK it isn't. It's very difficult to get a new contract without a phone.
It's easy enough to get a Pay-as-you-go sim card. You can get a contract sim card easily enough, but then again if you're getting a free phone you might as well - then you can hang on to it and use it as a backup if something goes wrong with your main one.
The high price of a sim-free phone is a bummer though.

I love all the posts that say, "competition is good, keep Apple on its toes." Problem is, the competition is just copying what Apple has done. Who else is really innovating anything new? That said, I don't see the MacBooks going with the Core 2 Duo until sometime next year. The Core Duo is a fine chip, and will handle pretty much anything a MacBook owner would need, and it would make the more expensive MacBook Pro seem more appealing.
I'm not sure Intel will be selling yonahs at that point. It's not really up to apple anymore more to do with the economics of dealing with Intel. Which is actually a good thing, things move quicker that way.

I have heard the opposite of this. My source has said that Apple will most likely wait until the next product cycle until the merom will be put in apple computers. But this is his own guess, but he his very connected in the technology world.

1. Apple has yet to release any official sales numbers on iPad 2 - at least I haven't come across this anywhere (this would be a perfect piece of anecdotal information at the beginning of a media event)
2. Phil Schiller said "white iPhone 4 coming spring 2011" (it's now officially Spring and we still haven't seen the white iPhone and therefore would make a nice 'Easter egg' with immediate availability also mentioned at the beginning of a media event)

I agree with you about November. But not for MBP - for Merom in MacBooks. I think since Merom is already shipping early it's a safe bet we'll see Merom MacBook Pros running @ 2.33GHz in September. November would have to be the drop dead date for Merom MacBooks still running @ 2GHz since above that speed they are way too expensive to go into MacBooks.Exactly. The Tuesday September 12 Paris Apple Expo Keynote is the latest MBP will be announced as "shipping today".

I've never heard of this company -- are they reputable, does anyone know? I've heard all sorts of stories abut these types of things being spyware or some such, don't want to pollute my Mac with any of that garbage!

The company I work for uses SOPHOS and has done for quite a few years..... the Windows client has a tiny footprint compared to McAfee, Norton / Symantec etc..... i.e. it slows your machine down FAR less than all the other solutions.
I think it is a little unfair to compare this to garbageware free PC solutions, before you call something garbage it is perhaps sensible to research it first. I run the Corporate version of Sophos on my MacPro, MacMini and MacBook Pro, as well as on my Windows Laptop and Media Centre PC. To me, Tablets are worthless. I've had to deal with them at work because some people continue to order them for all their tasks, but they're less mobile than some laptops. They're usually the same thickness or size as a portable, so why carry something that's going to be crippled in some manner?
Are they not getting the latest generation of tablet / laptop? These are functional as both, by allowing the screen to flip over, concealing the keyboard to act as a tablet, or simply opening up as a standard laptop. For example:

Why the hell are people defending Apple in this regard? All Im hearing is "Oh ha ha youre a moron for thinking Apple should do things differently...". And they justify their narrow perspective by citing how successful Apple is doing. What a joke. Youre the same people who go "ohhhh, ahhhh, the 5750 must be a powerful GPU since apple says so...credit card in hand!". Im not advocating that we trade in our MBP for Alienware...but the fact is Apple is not providing competitive value for their MBP HW. *Labored breathing and shaking....I walk away to contemplate seppuku

The other side of that is, if you buy into the walled garden, you have to generally suck it up. Apple has always done it there way, and will probably continue to do it their way regardless if it benefits the consumer. I've found most of the time what they do only benefits their coffers. They could easily make changes up front, but feel it's best for their pockets if they stagger features over years at a time knowing people will buy each and ever "upgrade" Apple delivers.
Related to the subject line, if it were any other company, like Microsoft, Dell or whomever pre-ordering and buying whole supply lines knowing their competitors would be strangled, there would be an antitrust/monopoly case launched immediately. The simple fact that Apple is a media and government darling precludes them from any serious thought by officials that would choose to stop this monopoly from continuing. Just as above, I know 9/10 fans here will blast me for stating the honest truth, but.. true story bro. Apple can do no wrong and their fan base is living proof of that.

The entire idea of restoring from a Time Machine backup has always been illogical to me.
If Time Machine backs up everything, then it backs up whatever problems you had that resulted in your need for restore.
Time Machine has limited real use, and its basically limited to accidentally deleting things.
Indeed, which is why I also do a Carbon Copy Clone once in a while. Most people, for some reason, just use Time Machine. Maybe they never have encountered a catastrophic disk failure. Seems like a big risk to take.

If they come out with a video-capable Airport, I'll buy two of them. We don't have a TV and watch everything on our 17" and 12" PBs right now. I want a projector but don't want to have the mess of cables everywhere. This would be exactly what I need. I certainly don't need a new iPod, but if they came out with a true video iPod that could stream video wirelessly to the Airport, I'd probably have to pick up one or two of those as well.
