And Amazon thinks crippling ioS compatibility will be good business? FAIL.
It's Apple crippling it with their, we get 30% of everything no matter what it is.
Amazon would love to get this on iOS devices, it helps with their sales. That is why Kindle is available.
Talk to Apple, they are the bad guy here.

I believe there a an entirely new iMac in the works. The current design can't handle the heat Conroe will want to throw at it. And the Kentsfield 4-core processor will want even better cooling. Currently the iMac looks like it has a G5 inside. Apple doesn't like their Macs to look the same over too long a time.
I disagree with you on this. I agree with you on the MBP. Apple just revved the specs of their displays and they also released the education iMac. I think the iMac is a homerun for Apple on the desktop. Obviously the strongest Apple product right now is the MacBook. But while I think you're right on with the MBP, I think they will find a way to update the iMac for new, faster processors while retaining the current design/enclosure. Even if it has Merom inside. After all they could rev it to Merom 2.1 and 2.3 and some nice new features and I don't think many people will complain. (Alright some will complain, they always do, but that's beside the point).
I would bet Conroe is the single processor option for Mac Pros to fill out the mid-range desktop line. The Mac Pro starts at $2,499 and that's way too expensive. I'm thinking there's going to be something to fill the gap between $1,499 and $2,499. That's where Conroe comes in.

Did anybody else notice that this "fourth generation iPod touch image" has the camera in the middle top of the body???
Maybe because the fourth generation iPod touch has a camera in the middle top of the body?
Are you serious? who cares about ipods & battery shortages when there is a crysis =/..
You are so right - because a terrible thing has occurred in Japan we shouldn't even mention them for a couple of years. Never mind that this is a website devoted to "Apple Mac Rumours and News You Care About". The next time something tragic happens here in America the entire website should shut down for a year or two, because Apple is an American company.

[url="http://semiaccurate.com/2011/05/05/apple-dumps-intel-from-laptop-lines/"]SemiAccurate claims (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/05/06/apple-to-move-from-intel-to-arm-processors-in-future-laptops/) to have heard that Apple will be transitioning from Intel processors to ARM processors in the not too distant future.
Interesting rumour.
I heard the other way around, that Apple will be using Intel as its main processor manufacturer (http://www.winbeta.org/?q=news/intel-build-next-generation-processor-ios-devices) for the iPad,iPod Touch, and iPhone, and will more than likely make that switch within the next year.
Reasons may be because of the ongoing lawsuits between Apple and Samsung, which they currently use.
I heard it enough, that it even got slashdotted (http://apple.slashdot.org/story/11/05/03/1357202/Intel-To-Build-Next-Gen-Processor-For-iOS-Devices).
So why go the exact opposite for the laptops when they would still be with Intel for their other devices? It would make better sense to standardize across the board.

No. It won't.
Sorry. ALready has Friend Jailbreaking is already legal
Companies have a right then to make money on it and Apple cannot actively try to cut off the ability of another company to make money off the Iphone legally, its called restraint of trade, a federal law.
It just hasn't gone to court yet. Apple is wrong, just like other broken laws they are broken until it goes to court.
;)
Yeah and that's what the loyalists said in the 80's, and there's less than 10% of us in the market now. You talk about security, but it's not a security threat to have a jailbroken user... oh wait, unless by security you're talking about someone picking up my phone and changing my home screen to 16 icon view instead of 12 that apple limits me too... oh the humanity. Call the pentagon, we have a breach... user is trying to put more icons on his screen than apple wants. Wake the president. Yeah only 10% ( 18 million x 10%) so thats only 1.8 million in the US world wide? probably the number is only around 2.5 million Jailbreakers? ( I would say more) Yes yes this is only a handful of people.
I wouldn't want $1 from each of these people its not worth the time! What I would only make 2.5 million dollars then!!!! LOL yes yes I see what your talking about......................

I also think that this return policy is rather asinine.
I agree. I think a much better policy would be you have to pay the restocking fee no matter when you return. So that way they break even when they resell it at a 5% discount (plus labor to check and make sure you did f-it up).

According to the sources for the report, iOS 5 will be a major update implementing the long-rumored cloud-based hosting for music, videos, and photos, as well as some new services such as location-based offerings.
FORGET about services! We need improvements to the BASE-UI. Notifications for one!

Phone calls are routed exclusively through the Car Kit's speakers, whether or not music etc. is routed through the output jack to speakers. A lot of smartphones are like the iPhone in that they won't run phone calls through the base/charger port, but will run the "computer" output, i.e., music and other programs. Has to do with the separate computer/phone circuits, I suppose.
Thanks for that info. I was wondering if I plug an fm transmitter into the car kit and play my music through my car speakers, will incoming phone calls also be sent through the car speakers or the Tomtom speaker? I prefer the phone calls just come through the car kit's speaker alone.

1) Does everyone agree that "Don't Panic" is the leader at the start of this game (his job is to send in our orders) ?
2) Do we leave the room in two groups as per "Don't Panic's" suggestion ?
I'll vote 1) Yes 2) Yes

Yes - both AMD 64 and Intel EM64T are 64 bit extensions to the 32 bit x86 processor.
From what I understand the registers are still 32 bit, but the chips have a 64 bit address space and more registers.
In 64-bit mode, the integer registers can be used as 8/16/32/64 bit wide integers (just like the PPC970).
Floating registers are 32-bit or 64-bit wide, on both 32-bit x86 and 64-bit x64. 64-bit floats have always been there in 32-bit x86.
No-one has the need for a truly 64 bit machine at this point - just machines that can address more RAM. The 4GB RAM limit on 32 bit processors is beginning to be an issue for pro users.
Considering that 32-bit x86 chips have been able to address 64 GiB of RAM for many years - if your statement is correct then there would be no need for x64 at all.
In other words, lots of people need 64-bit for the addressing PER PROCESS, not per system (processor) as you say. (Actually, there's no "per processor" limit - a 2-way can't address more RAM than a 1-way.)

The Apple iPhone would have to be better in functionality than a Blackberry to be considered useful, unless they can work out a better input device method or utilize Microsoft's Vista speech recognition program.
Hurray! Exactly what I'm thinking.
If Apple accomplishes this, I'll sell my Blackberry and buy Apple's phone in a flash.
But please, no speech recnogization... have you seen Microsoft's demo of their technology? Hilarious.

Competition is good! Especially for Apple and their my way or the highway way of doing things. I love my IP4 but Apple needs a kick in their wallet to get them motivated to keep up.

Apple wouldn't do that because NetFlix already does.
Well, I read a similar idea to this either here or on AppleInsider. Selling the movies at Apple stores, and getting the unlock key for the DRM once you get home or somesuch.

One other feature I would like to see in MBP would be an embedded evdo chip. That most likely won't happen but would be really nice.

Thanks. Anyone know what the advantage of having a 64-bit processor vs. a 32-bit (other than bigger address bus)? I know the CPU has 2 basic kinds of buses: the address bus (where it can see 4 GB of RAM in 32-bit, 16 ?(i don't know the prefix)bytes in 64-bit) and an instruction bus that actually computes.
