That book (Kochan's Programming in Objective-C 2.0) is what is recommended in the Guide at the top of the forum indeed :
http://guides.macrumors.com/Cocoa_FAQ#What_book_do_you_recommend_for_learning_Cocoa.3F
If you already have some programming experience with C++ (your initial post stated you were new to programming), you should be fine to delve into it directly.

hey,
I'm going to europe and just researching the idea of getting an itouch.
Is there an easy way of getting information off an sd camera card without a computer using an itouch? Anyway of getting it to show up as a drive then using the browser to maybe upload it to the web using a wifi hotspot?
I noticed this airstash device but its sold out and likely not available where i live. http://www.airstash.com
Any other devices or ideas? bluetooth? Buying a netbook would work but that would likely make me barf
Thanks

Simple. Use carbon copy cloned to mirror your Mac on the external drive. Then boot off the external on a friends Mac and sync your iOS devices with your data

Windows isn't poorly designed, you're just very comfortable with how OS X is designed. I think it would help if you bootcamp'd Windows 7 and used it for a couple of hours a day just to get a feel for how everything works again. You'll pick it up in no time :)
Though the one thing I really miss when using Windows is the shortcut keys from OS X. I know Windows has ctrl/various other key combinations for them but command+something is just much simpler for me. When it comes to shortcuts Windows could use a little help there

Here's my $.02 on this issue.
Don't encrypt!
I mean 10.7 is not even at the beta stage yet and given how easily encryption can destroy your data. Hold off until 10.7 is final

Thanks a lot guys.
I got it working.
The hardest part was subclassing UIView and instantiating it when I need it.
I'm getting the hang of iOS and O-C. Not too bad at all after a month of studying.

As I've said before, never chose a games machine over a computer or anything used as a creative device.
But the PS3 is a computer ;)
I had to...sorry,it just fit so well. There just wasn't a spot like this in the war thread

Who was the celebrity?
... and Calvinatir, you're my new best friend. You have a way with money that takes my breath away. Can you do me a favor and pay off my student loans?

This reminds me of the old-school rumors sites that used to have pages devoted to the latest rumors about various Apple products. Like they'd have a Power Mac page, and it would have the most accurate known spects and codename of the Power Mac, and stuff. That was sweet.

Oops! I guess this is the last item, not that previous..lol. Applecare; yes...definitely worth the cost. I'd get it closer to the end of year one though, that'll give 4 really. If you get it now, there's overlap. At least that's how it used to work?
It overlaps regardless. Applecare adds 2 years to the end of your factory warranty. It also makes it so that you have the full 3 years of phone support (unlimited) instead of just one call within the first 90 days. If you think you might need help doing anything, the phone support is very much worth it; even if nothing ever goes wrong hardware-wise with your machine. One thing - unless you get the student discount somehow, don't buy Applecare from Apple. Do it on Amazon and you can save some money.

I don't want a refund. I just think they should either offer more for educators or don't offer this type of package. As a macworld noob, I felt tricked. Eliminate the "special sessions" and let educators see the regular sessions and figure out how to apply the technology ourselves. I mean, I wasn't even able to see the microsoft office 2008 presentation.
That's horrible, as someone possibly going into the education field i feel for you and really think you should file a complaint.

When I pressed a little further, he basically said, "I can tell you I don't know anything or I can lose my job. What would you do?"
Sounds like something's coming soon to me. This RAM sale definitely makes it look probable as well. I'm dying to buy an ibook, but have heard the G3s aren't so good with OS X. That, plus an upgrade seemingly soon - I'm waiting. Hurry up, Apple.
G3s run OS X just fine, even with 192 RAM, like my 500MHz iBook has. There isn't even that bad a slowdown until about 5 or 6 apps are open.

Just fyi my refurb iMac shipped/delivered in about the same time so... estimate one week for shipping? Two to be on the safe side? :)
That's what I figured.. I want it the first week of June, so I'm thinking I'll order sometime just after May 15. Hopefully they'll have some of the 4gb refurb models in stock then.

I'm glad you are a part of instilling hope in others with your volunteer work and, if my memory serves me correctly, your regular job as well. I think that's awesome. :)
Memory fart, I'm retired, and happy to be so. :D
I currently work with three not-for-profits, but the CCS is the only one I can claim to offer any hope to others, as a cancer survivour myself.
Had some laughs today, with a new-to-me passenger, on her 2nd treatment day.
We share a diagnosis. :)
