I'm personally of the opinion that anyone that thinks they have any privacy in this digital age is lying to themselves. There is no privacy, every single time you do anything on the internet or cell phone, some device somewhere is keeping a log of it. This is just one more way. But like other people mentioned, unless you're a criminal or the victim of a highly sophisticated stalker, then no one really cares about your private data.
With that said, if Apple is in fact storing location data when you specifically turn location services off on your iPhone, then this is a big problem that needs to be remedied. Their TOS specifically states that they are not collecting this data when you turn location services off and that is a flat out lie.

Looks like MacCentral forgot to mention the fact that no matter how few cores an application can use - even if it's only ONE, the fact that more can be run at full speed SIMULTANEOUSLY is the whole reason for wanting-having-needing more cores - not wiether or not what you normally run can use 2, 3 or even all 4 cores at this time. The OS delegates to however many cores are vacant or underused so the user gets immediate benefit from 4 cores they will never get from 2. And I am 100% certain that tthe benefit is radically more than 20-30%.
It's an old think I always do one thing at a time mentality that overlooks this otherwise obvious reason for going with more cores if you can afford it.Heh, that's pretty funny. I have quite a few applications that'll hit one core at 100%. Instead of increasing the driving age, what about requiring more logged hours with a parent whit a learner's permit, manditory quality driver's ed, and making it harder for unsafe drivers to get their licence? Then require a one year driving check up a year after the licence was attained?

Freedom has a lot of risk involved. This does nothing more than negates the illegal check points. I don't care what the argument is. This is nothing more than an internal checkpoint that is illegal. If you are old enough to remember the 80's then you will probably recall how the eastern block communists countries were portrayed on TV. And we the good guys would never do things that they were doing "over there"! But alas there is no soviet union so I guess that makes it ok to do it now.
Just remember this safety while a concern can turn in to a prison that no one can get out of. Because the safest position is to have no choice. And without choice you are a slave. So enjoy your servitude.

Curious that everyone is clamoring for a thunderbolt-enabled machine, but there isn't a single thunderbolt drive available on the market.
I guess some people just need to feel like they have new stuff even if it's totally pointless.

I taught a 5-day class to Microsoft employees when Windows 98 was close to release, for people who'd be supporting it. It was the first time many people had heard of USB, and there were almost no devices to show people. In fact the only one I remember was the Cherry keyboard.
Anyway, I can see why people who've been able to delay their purchase time-frame long enough are "excited" - because by waiting a few weeks or months they'll be more current and better equipped for years.

As for the rest, so what. If you're doing a crime, and the police get a warrant to your computer, they will be able to trace where the phone has been. If it doesn't mesh with what you told them, you will have some explaining to do. If you're the victim of a crime, it will give lots of evidence to the holder of a warrant for the contents of your computer.
I mean, seriously. GPS chips in small devices mean I have GPS applications that show me the way. I can, with a group of similarly consenting friends or family, know where each other is at any time.
Other people make much of the fact that cellphone data itself is not covered by warrants, according to recent court decisions. So a policeman can simply call up AT&T or Verizon, present his credentials, and get a complete accounting of where your phone has been, and when it made calls. No voice data, so I really don't think it's covered by the 4th Amendment. After all, if you walk about in a public place, people have the right to see you. And take your picture, if you're under surveillance.
To defend our rights, first have a realistic notion of what those rights consist in.

The store is noisy, so it is hard to say. To me neither was making a sound.
My 24" is dead quiet. I haven't heard the fans spin up once. That's including multi-hour gaming sessions and Video encoding.

Personally, I see little point of USB3 -> TB connectivity since they'll probably be far more USB3 hard disks etc available ( and cheaper ) than TB - and there's no benefit at the end of the day to link USB3 to a TB device.

1. Creative rebrand their existing headphones etc. "Made for iPod" and start creating new iPod accessories.
2. "In order to make fuller use of those iPod accessories", Creative licenses the iPod connector port in exchange for AAC and iTMS support�
It could have been apple's plan to stay solo until Microsoft became involved, and then license fairplay

*Shrug* It is probably a feature enabled on the majority of GSM carriers for statistical purposes. Again, I don't see the problem. If this information is used to improve my network coverage, why should I care? If I'm not part of a secret terrorist cell, I don't see how my life is being negatively impacted by this information especially if it does not have any identifiable information attached to it.
