I was driving my girlfriends car (she was with me) and we were driving through an intersection at about 40mph (speed limit) and then all of a sudden wham goes a car into the side of ours.
This teenager driving some a big dodge pickup went through the stoplight at 30mph. The airbags went off in both of our cars. The car I was driving almost hit a car in the parallel lane.
The teenager broke his arm I think. Me and my girlfriend are thankfully fine. I somehow have a cut of my forehead from my girlfriends cellphone flying out of her hand in the accident. We both of course have some bruises.

A month ago I picked up a Gitzo GT-2531 (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/567542-REG/Gitzo_GT2531_GT_2531_Mountaineer_6X_Carbon.html) from B&H Photo and Video and am very happy with it. I also considered Induro and Manfrotto tripods, but nothing came close to the Gitzo in terms of specs for the money. So far I have taken it on one trip to the Collegiate Peaks (https://picasaweb.google.com/jabbott0/StElmoAndTheCollegiatePeaks?authkey=Gv1sRgCLz9scjryrjcSg#) in Colorado. It has also proven to be very good for long exposures (http://monogon.org/gfx/iss.html). I am using it with a Slik panhead that I plan to replace someday with a Really Right Stuff BH-40. The tripod is very solid compared to everything I've used before. I honestly don't think I will ever need anything else, as long as this one doesn't break.
Phrasikleia was the starter of the Let's Talk Tripods thread, and she unfortunately ended up with a Gitzo GT-1932 (series 1) that broke after one year. Here (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1085825) is another thread that has follow-up information from her and others. She ended up getting a GT-2531 (series 2) as well to replace it.
Gitzo just ended an $80 rebate program for a many of their tripods, including the GT-2531... if you are looking for the best deal on a new one, you may have to wait until they have another rebate program. I'm not sure how often they do these however.

The computer lab at my old school comprised of Blue iMac G3s. The main computer lab contained eMacs, 1 Quicksilver mirror doors(apple ACDs), and 2 Quicksilver dual 1ghz (with 2 Huge apple CRTs). The library has multi colored iMac G3s and multi color iBook clamshells. The English room contains iBook G4s. That school also had older beige macs that are still running. They were PowerMacs 5500s and some Power Mac G3 AIOs.

If you do a search for something and no matches are found you will receive the link to request new music. For your convenience, here is the link (http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunes.html). This is just a link to a site on the Apple web page, and will open in your browser, not iTunes. I think they used to make it easier to request music directly from iTunes, but I don't remember. On the plus side, you can easily bookmark the request link now.

for some reason, whenever I tried logging into macrumors, it said my username or password was invalid. I tried this on multiple computers and browsers, but it always said the same thing. AND NO, I DID NOT FORGET MY PASSWORD. NO ONE IS THAT STUPID TO FORGET SOMETHING THAT IMPORTANT. Even so, I tried going through the "forgot password" form and it said my email connected to the account didnt exist. Now I had to make a new one. Did this happen to anyone else, or is it just my luck?

If this is the case, its stories like these which prove that the media distorts actual truth and make it worse for the actual victim. Even the police who do have more info than the media, BELIEVE the media. Such stupidity. It was completely reasonable to leave the plane if he had a serious injury.
It wasn't that serious of an injury if he was able to drive home and start ****ing. Deploying the slides is to be reserved for dangers to passengers and the aircraft, not as a way for the cabin crew to slam the door on the way out.

Yeah, I was thinking of going to the Mall. The guy in the Carphone Warehouse there told me they would get many more IPhones than the O2 store in the Mall, but he would say that! :rolleyes:
Seeing as the Mall normally opens quite late (10am) in the day, do you think either of these stores will even be able to open early in the morning for the special launch?
I'm thinking the stores in Bristol centre might be a safer bet...

Haha yeah. For the iPad they opened at 9AM and I showed up around 8 and was amazed at the line - I think about 50% of it was Canadians showing up to buy it since it wasnt available internationally though. They also flew through those lines - there were at least 100 people in line ahead of me and I was out by 9:15.
The iPhone sale process requires a bit more work, so I imagine lines will be a bit slower, but hey, who knows?
I have a couple friends going with me so I don't mind the hanging out early :-).

i can do anything with beejive that i can do when i've used whatsapp, but have the advantage that i can also talk to people that don't have smart phones.....

The beauty of a mobile IM application is that you KNOW you can communicate with someone via that method no matter what. You don't have to check first if they're "logged in" (then if they're not logged in go back and send an SMS instead) b/c you and your contacts are always logged in.
Throw in the fact you can see when the message leaves your phone, gets delivered, when a contact is typing, fast file sharing, group chats, location sharing, broadcast messages etc and it's not even close to the same thing. Sorry.

My early 2008 Macbook Pro just died after two and a half years. When I brought it into the Apple Store, they said my logic board had failed and wasn't my nVidia 8600GT. $1,100 to replace. I said no thanks.
I'll be needing a laptop this Sept for school and the new Macbook Pros look awesome. Is there anything about them I should be afraid of?? I don't want it to break down.
My original core duo macbook pro just died after 5+ years of daily use. The graphics card died (non-nvidia, so not covered). It would have been $900 or so to replace the logic board in the apple store, but they also have a flat rate repair that's $300 or so that will cover shipping to their repair facility in TX, and then cover labor and absolutely any parts that need replacing. I hadn't realized this was an option -- it's like paying $300 or so to have your laptop covered like it was under applecare again.
I love the 2011 mbp I'm typing on right now, and I'm sure you will love yours too, but if I could pay $300 and have a 2008 mbp working again? I'd do it. In the end I even paid the flat rate to have my original mbp repaired. For $300 I've definitely got uses for it, and it has sentimental value (I wrote my dissertation on it). I would presume that you could pay the $300 to have it fixed and then sell it for much more than that if you just wanted to help finance your new machine.
Potentially worth looking into. I'm surprised it's not more publicized as a service.
