Another question based on a difference I see to Katrina - why am I not seeing any animals? After Katrina there were lots of rescued/abandoned dogs etc. Are pets not so prevalent in Japan?

And a lingual question - why the use of the word 'prefecture' all the time? As in Chiba prefecture, why not just Chiba? Isn't it unecessary, like saying 'Caifornia state' or 'Los Angeles city/county' all the time?

PS. I didn't see USA right at the top the chart at first. Maybe a big arrow to point it out. Anyway, how is Finland and Sweden etc healthier than Australia and Greece, do they not get more colds and flus than we in warmer countries?

Will it be able to tell you (via voice) which side of the street your destination is on before actually reaching it, unlike Navigon?

My guess is that iMovie 07 will have "green screen" effects like the ichat in leopard. If that is the case then it might need to wait for Leopard to be released.
that would be something worth upgrading to ilife 07 for.

I'll pass. I don't really care. I am slowly moving away from Apple's products, the company is turning into Microsoft of the 90's.

I don't need to read an ass kissing book about Jobs.

You don't read a biography to show your support for the company run by the person the book is about. You read a biography to learn something about that person, to help you understand why people did what they did, and possibly to get a few ideas to use in your personal life.

If you think Jobs is a bad person who turned Apple into the Microsoft of the 90's, you should read the book so that you can:
    1. Verify that this is, in fact, true;
    2. Try to understand his reasons for doing so;
    3. Learn how to avoid the pitfalls that Steve has fallen into, so that your life can be better and you can give back to the community or build a lasting, open, giving organization unlike Steve.

I don't happen to think Apple is anything like the Microsoft of the 90's. MOT90's had a legal near monopoly in desktop operating systems due to network effects, and used that to expand into: office suites; browsers; enterprise support; a variety of other things (Xbox, Zune, etc.). Their focus was on expanding sales and controlling markets.

Apple is run by a guy who wants to make beautiful products, who is willing to lock down those products so they work the way he, not you, want.

Tuesday at 3:00 works for me. I'm guessing most of us locals will have plenty of time to get to the Moscone Center after watching MR's Keynote coverage from home or work.

Good point about doing the "big" meeting more sooner than later. And there is a certain excitement in the hall on Tuesday that starts to fade a bit by Wednesday.

PS - I'm wearing my favorite shirt, so I'll be pretty easy to recognize...

Sorry, nothing changes. 4-5 week window 1 week ago, now a 3-4 week window...same thing. Only thing is 1 week has passed lol

Having said that I ordered mine Tuesday and it still says a ship date of 26th April, that is 6 weeks. I hope they send it earlier as I would be a little pissed if someone ordered today and got it earlier than the 26th April.

You must embrace pain to full understand it.
Once you understand it, you can control it and find its pleasure.
    The human body is awesome.

I have heard that many described many times by professional athletes. That in order to succeed they must learn to work through the pain. From what I have heard they are also given local steroids and pain medications that would certainly.

I'm sure that with anything else some could find pleasure from pain.

I'm a little surprised apple didn't see something like this coming.
Any sort of stored db on the phone with what looks like location data was bound to make some people scared.

Even if the data is just the wifi hot spot/cel tower data, you can't trust your average joe schmo 'wannabee' techie to really understand what he is looking at.

I am glad that apple is acknowledging that educating people is the answer here.

When is Apple going to figure out how to implement software patches instead of forcing people to download a whole copy of the OS for every little update?

    ... kudos and +1 .. very important ..!!

Those of you with MBs or MBPs with heat issues - get Fan Control Pref Pane.

It works, I have a RavA MBP2Ghz that runs cool to the touch, even when maxxed out running BOINC.

No problems here with the update - beeped instead of flashing lights, then a progress bar, reboot and a dialog box after startup that said the firmware was successfully updated.

Picked up a copy of this up on Amazon. They have a $20 gift card deal going on. Plus if you buy the Playstation 3 version (and sync your PSN and Steam IDs) you can download a free copy of the game for your PC or Mac. So that's about $35 for the game and a $20 gift card, plus free shipping (2 day shipping for Prime members) and no tax? That's a good deal in my book. :D

Anybody know if that is possible for Xbox? My guess would be no since it's Microsoft, but I'll look into anyway.

Probably because they sent him an iPad for free, so he has to be nice.

Possibly.... I like to think of Colbert as the Apple show-off guy in comedy since he is one of the few, who gets access to Apple's stuff outside the lockdown doors and can display stuff in public (see iPad on Music Awards).

I bet he has some small contract with Apple.

For example: the video and audio packed together, but I expect something like a J or L-cut will still be possible in an easy way. But how? Let's wait...
You haven't seen the video of the super meet? You have to see it. IMO the whole timeline is getting set for a touch interface. Just imagine fcp x on your screen in front of you and the timeline on your iPad.

I've owned every iPhone, and every new iPhone running X.0, runs beautifully, only to be slowed down and negatively effected by every single interim update.

The explain to us, why are you still updating? Incremental updates are usually not worth the trouble.

Has anyone else noticed that Test Match Special on Radio 4 can occasionally be the most innuedo-laden, smuttily, smirk-worthy show on UK daytime radio?

    Or is that just me?

Given that it features faceless radio presenters, old farts and ex-sportsmen, I'd say you're probably right :)

From what I've seen of it on cars, carbon fiber is quite susceptible to scratching, and scratches can look very prominent. Not sure it would make such a great enclosure material. True, it would be better for WiFi transmission, but it would also keep more heat in. Possibly a replacement for plastic, but IMO not a replacement for unibody aluminum.

i don't think it will be live...
their servers will not be able to handle the load..

They used to do all the apple events live broadcast. The wwdc keynotes and the itunes ones.

I am loving the added competition in the video streaming space.

Makes people like Comcast and TimeWarner squirm. The Post-TV days are here, just like the Post-CD, Post-Newspaper and Post-Magazine before. All we needed was mature encoding, and enough bandwidth.

Apple needs to do this to continue growing as a media distribution king; they're tiny in all areas except music right now.

The consumer will win, not from Apple's "rock bottom" pro-sumer pricing ;), but because the competition will drive costs down and bring more content into the mix.

If someone clings to the hood of my car I'm not supposed to drive away?

If someone holds on to the hood of my car, he better hold on tight.

I do think it's unreasonable to be FORCED to stop because someone is deliberately trying to get you to stop by hanging onto you car. If you do stop, they win. Why would you let them win so easily?

I got to watch it. However, there were interruptions due to the high amount of web traffic.

What's wrong with Steve Jobs? He's gotten very skinny since MacWorld.

+1. I don't think they meant vehicle traffic, they meant network traffic.

what would "offering users a traffic service" mean? im a user. the only thing "traffic service" could mean to me is car traffic.
