Apple isn't forced to allow iOS only on their own devices.
Besides, Apple is doing the same thing with OS X, it's made for Macs only, and people have always been comparing their sales against Windows.

It is a hardware company that creates software for its hardware. It has never tried to offer it's software as an install option on other hardware, and in-fact has challenged installation of it's software on PC's. You can either be intelligent enough to recognize and compare runners in the same race or you can't. Apple is not in the race to install its OS on any hardware other than its own. It is pretty naive to benchmark a "runner" in a race in which it is not running. If you would measure your personal performance against people not competing against you, would say that is a valid measure? I am a pilot, and to say I am a better pilot than my neighbor (not a pilot) would be a pretty empty and laughable bragging point for me to make.
We don't hear much argument on here about how many more phones Apple sells than Google, because Google does not sell a phone (anymore). Mobileme is certainly worth more than free. Apple doesn't scrape your emails and other data to target adds at you a la Google.
I could see Apple making some features of Mobileme free. I don't think they're just going kill a revenue stream but they could offer a basic free Mobileme account which gives you.

Let's see - the iPad 2 had a faster CPU and has the same/better battery life. So where is your logic?
And you know how Apple did it? By increasing the size of the battery pack itself.
As for the iPhone 5, I think in the end the device will most likely spec out like this:
1. Will look like a "thicker" 4G iPod touch but with a much-improved metal-band surround antenna that is not so susceptible to the "grip of death" antenna reception issues.
2. The backing will no longer use glass. Don't be surprised if the backing uses LiquidMetal (maybe carbon fiber if Apple can figure out a way to manufacture it at reasonable cost).
3. Display is now a full 4" IPS LCD touchscreen.
4. It will use A5 dual-core CPU/GPU.
5. It may get a RAM bump from 512 MB to 768 MB.
6. Flash memory storage options are still 16 and 32 GB, but in a smaller physical size for flash memory module.
7. Battery size will get bigger for longer battery life.
8. Will add Bluetooth 4.0 functionality.
9. Will likely add full near-field communications (NFC) functionality, including full compatibility with the Sony FeliCa system widely used in eastern Asia.
10. Will NOT add Thunderbolt I/O, since it would be overkill and few devices support the Thunderbolt I/O anyway.

i would really welcome this. i have been using mobileme when it was free and called iTools, then i used .mac.
if apple wants to compete with all the free services out there, like dropbox, all of google's cloud based apps, etc, they need to make their service free.
i love the seamless integration of mobileme with my macbook pro, iphone, and ipad. and i love my .mac email address. i've had it for years.
mobileme has been extremely useful and it would make it even better if it were free.

I for one am not really that bothered about Lion or any OS updates - I love to have the latest thing and all improvements are always good. However, in my opinion they need to fix the OS I have before they release another one! For example with the last "update" [10.6.7] my Open type fonts are now playing up and the wonderful new Mac App Store takes about a minute to launch!
I get very worried when I hear El-Jobso talking about post a PC world as if he has decided already that the PC is dead. I for one could not make a living using an iPad and an iPhone.
Macs have always historically been used by content creators and designers [like me]. If, sometime in the future, Apple plan to lock down the system like they do with the iOS then I will simply stop upgrading my system. I could carry on using the system I have now until I retire, so it makes no odds to me if they want to stop making "proper" macs. I would imagine the rest of the design community would feel the same.
Don't get me wrong, I have an iPad and an iPhone and I can see how for the vast majority of consumers these would fit the bill for all your computing needs. However, if these consumers are going to have something to look at or play with or listen to, then us designers need the tools to create stuff with and that means powerful PCs.

Just don't make it obsolete by removing any features. SP version could easily be smaller but the DP version is already small compared to others.
The current case size is perfect imo. I know Apple likes their products to be as small and quiet as possible but you have to wonder if heat will be an issue with two six core processors in such a small case.

I am new to this forum, and a true novice with tomtom and car kits. I just downloaded the application onto my iPhone, and then setup the car kit. It works fine. What I have is probably what sounds like the dumbest of questions:
What is the car kit's resistance to cold temperatures? I live in Cleveland, OH and if I live the mount in the car for a whole day during winter, will the chips or anything be damaged?
Do you advice dismounting the kit every time I park for a few hours, and/or for the night? My garage is not heated.

I guess I am the only one that remembers that it started out as a free service. Before it was .Mac it was called iTools and it was free. It was a benefit of being a part of the Mac community. It certainly was much more basic back then, but I have been using it since. The remote wipe for iPhone and other added features keep it worth the family pac price for this household even if it doesn't go back to being a free service.

I would love a video streaming device. I use my airport express almost every day for streaming iTunes to my stereo, I'd love to be able to do the same with movies.
I have to believe that video quality for iMovie Store movies will be much improved over the current video offerings. Hopefully TV shows will get the same treatment.
Lastly, let me just throw my favorite (long-shot) rumor into the mix... Mac Pro Cube!!

HA ha! Guess what my first new car was (when i turned 17)...an 05' Scion TC.
The thing was underpowered, not great fuel econ, a fuel injection sensor went bad at 30k miles, the window motors got really slow quickly, the dash looked like Kabul after a while, and of course as soon as i bought one...so did everyone else. It was a happy happy day when I got a used SAAB:) Sorry for the rant...SCIONS are just crappy cars...but i guess you get what you pay for :p

If I could just have a Mac tablet that I could type and write notes on for class, I'd be in heaven :)
I used this (http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/navigate.do?dest=5&item=143780) in class to write my notes on. Very durable (I dropped it once and was still able to use it!), and I haven't had a problem with it crapping out on me when I needed it. Storage space is limited but I would buy another one in a heartbeat.

So. Errm. I have a question.
I have a MBP as in my sig. Actually that is the second one I have. First one got damaged by Apple, this second one is currently with Apple and has been for the last 4 weeks. It only went in to repair the fried BT.
Anyway. Since buying my first MBP in February and receiving the replacement in June which is now back with Apple. I have only had around 4 weeks usuage out of my machine and to this date I am still not using my MBP I originally purchased in February. Every time I call Apple to ask where my machine is they tell me that it will be with me the following week.
So what are the chances of Apple upgrading me to a new Merom MBP eh. What you think?:confused:

If they add the "album only" feature to *All* Radiohead's songs, more bands will follow. Mostly for marketing reasons. There are lots of those crappy "Radiohead wannabes - ohhhhhh our songs should not be outside their album":mad:
