These are the products that Apple is exhibiting at the show, according to the photokina-site. Just to point out to the people that somehow has forgotten that Apple makes hardware very well suited for photography that a Macbook Pro is not out-of-place here! :p

Really, though $100 million isn't all that significant to a company with reserves like Apple has, vs. having a possible patent infringement hanging over them that could, given a ruling against them, cost much more.

Not that much. Not 100 million smackers. Some seem to believe that patent and copyright lawsuits are slot machines that always pay off. Not so. You settle for big numbers when you think you're likely to lose. You fight when believe the case will be dismissed. Apple easily could have slugged this one out with Creative, and they would have, or settled for a token amount, if they thought they had a chance of prevailing. The result speaks for itself.

I don't think Apple is aiming for the uber-geek with $25k worth of home entertainment equipment. IMHO, they will never be able to compete in that market.
I think they are reaching for the average joe blow that has a servicable $400 TV that he bought at Wal-mart, and maybe, just maybe, has a stereo hooked up to it. The average Joe doesn't care, and can't tell, that it's Dolby Surround and not Dolby Digital.I disagree. Dolby Digital is no longer reserved for rich �ber-geeks. Many "regular Joes" have a Dolby Digital setup now, and you can get a Dolby Digital receiver (all 5 normal channels powered) for under $100.

Is that really what it's about? Or is it about people looking down their noses at humor they aren't into. The guy made a joke. Nobody was harmed, especially not the dead. I loved my G5 and I might well buy another iMac when I upgrade from the Mini I have now. A Mac Pro would be nice too, but we'll see. Anyways, the iMac is not the "most powerful desktop" in the world and no one gives a damn: it's an awesome machine regardless. So please, honestly, just drop it. What you said was false and still is. It's ok. Everyone makes mistakes. But drop it. It's starting to annoy me very seriously and I'd be surprised if I was the only one.
And I don't see what your personal attacks on some fine folks here are adding to the discussion. Along with opinions, AidenShaw - among others - brings a lot of technical expertise and hard facts to the table. I, for one, value that greatly, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Indeed, the reason MacRumors is so awesome is that a fair share of the posters bring more than opinions to the forums: they also bring hard facts and educated guesses. I think that people can discuss respectfully, that people can argue respectfully, and that people can disagree respectfully. My wife busted her phone today, and called me for a recommendation. All she wants as a Mom is a phone with a long battery life and great reception.
She left the Cingular store with a crappy phone with a million features she will never use.
It's too bad the Motorola MOTOFONE (http://www.motorola.com/motoinfo/product/details.jsp?globalObjectId=164) isn't available yet. It would have been perfect. A phone where battery life, reception and ease of use are the main features? Finally some gets it.

And it probably ended up costing Apple less than litigating the 5 lawsuits.
What's most interesting about the settlement is that it doesn't seem like Creative got much in the way of cross licensing out of it.

The trackpad option is awesome. Every bundled Apple mouse I've gotten for the past 15 years has gone straight in the trash. The only good mouse Apple ever made was the ADB II. At least now I get a free trackpad to play with! Cool!

I have a return rant for you: People that tailgate me. I have a 340hp car, so whatever speed I'm doing, I'm probably doing for a good reason.
No, I'm not going to pull over on a 25mph, really bumpy one lane street so you can roar by at 5 over the speed limit.
I think proper etiquette for passing is ONLY to flash your high beams a few times. If that doesn't work, take a chill pill man - there's just not much you can do about it at the time. Tailgating is an offense that should be punishable by a tazering or something, it's unsafe and idiotic among other things
