Wouldn't it be nice to have a phone that was able to switch to VOIP in areas with free 802.11 service if you choose to? It could be a part of .Mac Moblie that was discussed earlier. At home it would be on your existing wireless network and could sync with iTunes and all the other Apple Apps and serve as a remote. Away from a 802.11 network it could pick up the cell carrier towers. Would something like this be worth developing?
This is not so far-fetched - I briefly owned the T-Mobile SDA phone that was Wi-Fi enabled. If that phone could have Wi-Fi, why not the iPhone? But I don't know how realistic it is to expect fast iTunes synching though through Wi-Fi. It may be possible, but it would be at least 10 times slower than just hooking it up with a USB cable.
Also, if Apple does make the deal with Cingular there is NO way the phone would seamlessly switch to VOIP, even if it were Wi-Fi enabled. Cingular is in the business of selling you voice minutes, remember? That being said, if it's Wi-Fi enabled I could see someone writing a 3rd Party app (like a Java-based Skype client, for example).

If so, then that phone had *better* have every conceivable bell and whistle to get people to plunk down that kind of cash. That means Wi-Fi, stereo Bluetooth, Quad-Band, maybe UTMS/HSDPA enabled (2.5G and 3.5G, respectively, and maybe the deal is just that Cingular will have the phone be officially supported on their network even though it'll only be sold through the Apple store).

Oh, my God! Somebody will know that I took the train! (If, of course, they are security researchers or police officers or vengeful wives who hire a tech detective). So what? Apple does what a responsible corporation must: it won't give out your location without your permission, each and every time.
As for the rest, so what. If you're doing a crime, and the police get a warrant to your computer, they will be able to trace where the phone has been. If it doesn't mesh with what you told them, you will have some explaining to do. If you're the victim of a crime, it will give lots of evidence to the holder of a warrant for the contents of your computer.
I mean, seriously. GPS chips in small devices mean I have GPS applications that show me the way. I can, with a group of similarly consenting friends or family, know where each other is at any time.
Other people make much of the fact that cellphone data itself is not covered by warrants, according to recent court decisions. So a policeman can simply call up AT&T or Verizon, present his credentials, and get a complete accounting of where your phone has been, and when it made calls. No voice data, so I really don't think it's covered by the 4th Amendment. After all, if you walk about in a public place, people have the right to see you. And take your picture, if you're under surveillance.
To defend our rights, first have a realistic notion of what those rights consist in.

Don't forget our lovely service providers like hmmmm AT&T. They've gotta be the worst company of all companies. Their customer service means putting people on hold for 2-3 hours.
Anyway, Im looking forward to the Apple phone. My $50 gophone just isnt cutting it anymore.

Because they didn't redesign the MBP. It is the same 13" unibody MBP they have had since the first 13" unibody MBP. Because of that, everything is exactly the same as it was. It has nothing to do with the capabilities of the video chipset. Seriously the 13" MBP can run a 27" ACD.
They could have still changed LCD panels without needing a redesign.
I may definitely be looking into an 11" MBA later this year if they do come out with SB and thunderbolt. As long as the battery life is the same or better.

A family member has the new MBP 13" and I think it has a nice display. I have no idea how it is for gaming, but pics and videos look quite nice, IMHO. I've been of the opinion that Apple uses a better quality display panel than the other manufacturers, not necessarily stronger graphics performance but overall better looking.
I have always found that the Apple displays are a lot brighter than other brands. Tome, the quality of the display is one of the most important key points of a new model.
If they were to make any significant improvement in the 11.6" MBA display (higher resolution, brighter screen, higher contrast, move to IPS technology) I think I would consider upgrading immediately.

If Apple is planning to introduce a video iPod and movie service on the 12th, might it makes sense to release updates of some products, such as the MBP, the previous week, giving the full spotlight to the new products. There really doesn't need to be a special press event for an updated laptop, even if it does have a new case (as I don't expect it to be too different). It would certainly give Apple lots of positive press about the updates and fuel even more talk about what was coming the following week.

So, with TB moving across the whole line, how long before we can buy a (Data | Display) splitter for TB so that people using the new systems can use external displays and the data connection at the same time without the PITA of daily chaining? Hope before I buy a new system :/

Think about it. If Mail.app used 100% of a core ALL THE TIME, people with single CPU machines wouldn't be able to do anything.
Mail on my G5 iMac is sat there at 0.0% CPU utilisation when it's not doing anything.I have a large library of mail and smart mailboxes that refresh every time it checks for new mail. If I have it set to every 5 minutes, it takes 3 or 4 minutes to refresh all my smart mailboxes. :)

Well fudge. I've been holding off on getting an Airport Express for literally a year, waiting for an AV version. I finally had to get one when I moved (no cable drop in the office at new house, so needed a wireless router) and then like 2 weeks later they release the AV model. Bastards.
Oh well, probably can't afford one anyways - seeing as the AE w/ AirTunes is still $100. Does Apple price match refurb hardware? I'm assuming the AE price will drop when they release the AV model.
Hmmm, I might be able to talk my wife into letting me get one for the theatre room if I can make it send cable TV up there too... Have to wait and see what the product actually is.
Also, $10-15 for a d/l movies is a ripoff. Unless they are going to do HD quality movies at $15, DVDs will remain a much better value. Now, HD download service, with an affordable playback mechanism, at $15 per movie they will clean up... SD though? Forget about it.

If I am forced to watch ANY commercials on the iTunes movie downloads, then I'll never use it, ever. Bad enough I spend $10 to go to a theater to have the same mazda zoom zoom zoom/coke and a smile crap every time.
Why would they do commercials? Commercials only make sense if they give you content for free. Has anyone done home viewing of movies for a fee and still included commercials (other than movie trailers)?
