I recently had a chance to use one of these things. What a poor experience! Way over-animated and truncating large text is not the key to a good user experience (My favorite truncation is "Powerpoir" - is that the French version of Powerpoint?). After a bit you start to realize that they just don't get making an interface that is the size of the screen in hand (no pun intended). They still want a larger screen. It's a shame, because I wanted to like it, and I had heard good things from the pundits, but it clearly needs a really good once-over by someone who understands how to actually do something on a small screen.

certainly not if you own the content. cds don't have ads, but radio does.

And DVD's don't have ads even if you rent them (other than trailers, which is pretty standard).

So why can't you use an official Apple API on the iPhone? That's crazy.

He's taking the fact that Apple has the legal right to object and extrapolating that it somehow makes sense for them to do so.

For the last few days there has been a lot of adverts of iTunes and the Nano on TV, like the city one "This ain't the first time!". So Apple I think is already promoting them a bit more :) Perhaps we will see an updated Nano, iPod, Music/Movie store and stuff :)

(sorry if something has been mention, I can't be arsed to read all 10 pages :P )

From apps like this to radar detectors, I cant believe its legal to release products designed to circumvent laws, resulting in preventable deaths.

If you think it should be legal to speed, or to drive drunk, that change THAT law, dont make it legal to circumvent the existing law. It makes no sense.

The problem with Greenpeace is that they can't get over themselves. It doesn't matter to these self-important selfish ideologues if they are right or wrong; as long as they are advocating a particular position, they feel justified to take any action (legal or illegal) to support that position. Also, they don't care if they interfere with the rights of other exhibitors, companies who paid quite a bit of money to participate in the Expo to meet with customers.

I'm glad that Greenpeace was ejected from the Expo--it is exactly what should have happened, as it should to any rube or hooligan who can't follow the rules.

Go "matte.....easier on your eyes under all lighting conditions, more accurate representation of what will be printed or show on other people's monitors."

Bold part. Explain how Matte offers such a thing if "other people's monitors" are glossy ? How does matte better represent the content as displayed on glossy monitors ?

Photographers and people who don't like sparkled/ full of reflection monitors go with matte.

Those guys must not have existed before the advent of LCD monitors... what did those guys do with the big glass tubes ?

The "step forward" of which you speak, of which is the basis of this article, is only in regards to the exterior design, nothing else. Sure if they improve upon the durability and the ease of servicing, that'll be a decent step forward, otherwise, we're talking about cosmetics, and again while most of the people who lurk these forums care about form over function, function is all that matters and it won't be that different next rev, redesign or not.

Herp derp. Im pretty sure there will be a minor spec bump as well, and exterior design in a laptop is a pretty important feature or a "function and should be taken in consideration just as well (or not even more) than a new "ixy procesor" and a "8650 gt mx" graphics card, which in most cases just serve as a hard on for spec geeks.

why am i even responding you are clearly bitter and are writing purely from that bitterness.

As I said, fewer and fewer spaces where public debate can take place. Shopping malls are the same - 'public spaces' that aren't. Soon streets that have been public for years will start to be be privatised to provide 'better value for taxpayers' and the takeover will continue.

Then where can free debate take place? Some postage-stamp size bit of turf you call home?

Huh? Here, this might help. (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/12293)

... and who thought shopping malls were public places? WTH? Honestly.

Ahhh just as I bought a new MBP!!!!! Hopefully resale value won't take too big of a hit :(

13"ers generally lose 15-20% value after a year, so should be fine.

I really hope this happens but I have a feeling that it will be hobbled in some way. If it runs from an iTunes master copy of songs then it might preclude people uploading music that has been ripped from CDs or bought somewhere else (like Amazon).

It this utter ignorance and false sense of security in the Mac user base that I would use to my advantage if I were a cyber-criminal.
Many have tried. Most — probably all, but I'll leave that open — have failed. I can be completely ignorant or completely aware, but my options remain the same: perform system updates as they become available.

AV software is an unnecessary expense both monetarily and computationally. It offers no additional protection beyond that provided by the OS, and if some day some one does develop a successful virus I'll probably download the patch from Apple long before the virus ever attempts to compromise my system, so even then AV software is still a waste of money and computing power.

By the way, I've been using OS X since "Cheetah (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mac_OS_X)" in March of 2001. Ever since then I've been told that I need to prepare for the day when the OS would come under attack. Here we are ten years later and I'm still waiting. I will not be surprised if I'm still waiting in 2021.

of course that would be useful and by all means wait another year if you must, but personally i'd rather just buy now and then upgrade later as if it's really that amazing then the sockets are still compatable and an easy upgrade.

Well, you won't be upgrading laptops because the chip is soldered in
I'm sure there isn't a slot to put the flash memory in
Your old chipset won't support it

It all comes down to if you NEED it.

    Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8G4 Safari/6533.18.5)

Curious that everyone is clamoring for a thunderbolt-enabled machine, but there isn't a single thunderbolt drive available on the market.

I guess some people just need to feel like they have new stuff even if it's totally pointless.

Thunderbolt drives will be out this summer.

OK, so if the apple phone is coming (I bet apple are going to call it anything but iphone) it will certainly rock the boat in the market, however there is one thing the ipod is good for that a cellphone will never be able to reach.

I was thinking the other day as I boarded my flight if all ipods became cellphones we would cease to be able to use them on planes, which is probably not much for some people but if you have one device that handles everything then you are inevitably going to get on a plane with it.

I think i might sugest to apple to put them ahead of the rest of some way of disabling the phone part of the "Nano + Phone" or whatever it looks like so it wont bring the plane down as one listens to one's own trippin hip hop mixin vibes.

    what d'you reckon guys?

And the other 14-16 hours of the day where I'm not at home, but at work, traveling, at coffee shops, walking, relaxing, jogging, etc.?

You do realize iPods are portable music players right? Meaning they likely get most use outside of the home.

you won't have access to it like pandora so you wont' have to worrry.....

again, if you are unlimited or bigger data cap it won't matter.

plus my work has wifi...i'm sure a lot of other people have the same.

If Apple made a new handheld with PDA, video, and audio features based around the iPod innovations... I'm there man, I'd so buy one.

What about cell phone capabilities too? :p ;)

Come on Apple, show us the HD. In a time when everyone's standoffish about HD because of the format wars Apple adopting the technology would mean you would never have bought into the wrong technology -- and eventually I imagine it would become the standard.

Come on Apple, push the technology forward like you know you should. Please?

Ok but didn't someone say that CMD + Drag does the same for files?
Yes. Which was also mentioned that cmd+drag is very inconvenient and a hassle to deal with the majority of the time (or at least in my opinion.)

Why Apple just doesn't just enable cmd-x in Finder is beyond me. It would make my life just a little easier at times.

I like to see some benchmarks against G4 machines and see if they make me pull the credit card out.

They've done that in this benchmark, tho only on the Speedmark test:
Speedmark 4.5 scores are relative to those of a 1.25GHz Mac mini, which is assigned a score of 100.
If you go by that, the new iMacs are about 2.5x faster.
